Homemade Lemonade
A very easy to make non-alcoholic drink option for party nights and summer barbecues
When life gives you lemons..No, no, no. Let me stop myself there and start again without that cliché. If you are even a little like me and think that store bought fizzy drinks are blaah and they are full of sugar and don´t even taste good, then, my friend, I have an idea that you will definitely enjoy :)

Usually I get more active with these kind of drink recipes closer to the summer, but somehow the citrus fruit season has made me go crazy and create a whole lot of new recipes. There was that gorgeous Blood Orange Lemonade, that vibrant Citrus Salad and so many delicious baked goodies like that Blood Orange Coconut Cake and my new favorite sweet bread, the Sweet Fig Bread with Blood Orange Icing. And I must admit, I still have a couple ready, waiting to be shared. So I hope you are also as excited about all this seasonal fruit, because I can barely handle it :)

This traditional Homemade Lemonade is very easy and fast to make. You just need some fresh lemon, give it a squeeze to get that juice out, toss in some sugar, let it melt and ready. Oh, well, actually, you don´t want to be drinking the syrup, so you also need some cold water, but then, that really is all. It really is as simple as that :) What is also great about this recipe is that you can decide the amount of sugar yourself. I used 50g, but I also thought that might have been a bit too little. My guess would be 75g and then I will be happy, but you really need to taste the lemonade right after adding the syrup to the water and if the sourness makes your face go all funny, just toss in some more sugar until you like it :)

Not a big fan of sugar? Just use honey or any other sweetener instead. For liquid sweeteners make sure that they are well combined with the juice and heat a little if needed.

RECIPE
Homemade Lemonade
A very easy to make non-alcoholic drink option for party nights and summer barbecues
INGREDIENTS

-
100ml freshly pressed lemon juice (2-3 lemons)
-
50-100g sugar (or other sweetener)
-
1 litre cold water
-
some sliced lemon & fresh mint for decoration

DIRECTIONS

-
Press about 100 ml of lemon juice.
-
Take a small pot and add the sugar and sieve the freshly pressed lemon juice to it.
-
Heat the sugar and the lemon juice on low to medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved. Do not boil. Once sugar has melted, remove the syrup from the heat.
-
Fill up a big jug with 1,0 litres of cold water. Add the syrup to the jug with water and give it a mix.
-
Decorate with lemon slices and fresh mint.
-
Enjoy the lemonade fresh or store it in the fridge for later (no more than a day).

TIP. Taste the lemonade once you have added the syrup to it, if you find it too sour you can add some extra sugar at this point and mix it in.
